Burning Rome

Watercolor, 18” x 24”

Steam engine trains used to put on a show of cleaning out their fire boxes, causing great plumes of black smoke to billow from their smokestacks.  It was called “Burning Rome.”  I was experimenting with the Elegant Writer pens to draw the train’s smoke, and then adding water to make the ink flow in similar smoke patterns, like I have seen coming from the old steam engines.
