Rusted and Koi

Quilted Fabric, 47” x 53”

I have a lily pond with koi swimming in it, and a real Heron that comes to go fishing in it — inspiring this quilt. 

The rusted heron was made from a template piece of metal placed on cotton fabric, sprayed with vinegar, and left to stain the cloth with rust.  I painted the koi fish and plants, appliqued onto the bottom of the quilt, using fabric paints.
